Now I am a Peacebuilder

“In former times I was a local chief. Now I am a Peacebuilder”
Green Scenery trained community Peacebuilders in the North, East and South of the country in Constructive Conflict Resolution tools and established CoPNet, a network of 120 Community Peacebuilders.
Main areas of intervention of this volunteer service to communities are intergroup and interpersonal conflicts like domestic violence, teenage pregnancy, conflicts between youth of political parties. Equipped with constructive conflict resolution tools, Community Peacebuilders are looking for win-win-solutions and are introducing non violent ways of solving conflicts.
Their service is highly appreciated by the communities. Up to ten times a month Peacebuilders are called from affected parties, family members, outsiders and local chiefs. Showing commitment they cover up to five villages and walk long distances to reach conflicting parties.
Volunteers of CoPNet are still facing challenges: No means of transport and the lack of acceptance on the side of local chiefs and courts are demanding to extend the network and raise awareness on the peacebuilders role. Asked where they see main threats for peace in Sierra Leone they agree: Political intolerance, the use of violence, selfishness and abuse of power.
Green Scenery is organizing experience sharing and trainings and monitors and evaluates the work of CoPNet. The organization gained credibility in peacebuilding through their school program and the Per Mediators Network (PeMNet), established to monitor conflict early warning.
