Green Scenery Boosts the Capacities of the Districts Multi stakeholders Platform (DMSP) to Manage Land Conflicts and Protect Customary Land rights in Pujehun, Port Loko and Bombali Districts.

Following the persistent increases in land rights abuse, tensions and sporadic conflicts over land in Sierra Leone, In 2020 Green Scenery  a rights based civil Society  Organisation on natural Resources Governance through the implantation of the Pro-poor land governance supported by Christian aid through Irish aid established the district Multi-stakeholder platform in the Portloko and Bombli districts respectively. As a result of the growing number of impacts and achievements made by the DMSP in Portloko and Bombali districts, In 2021, organization went further  established the district Multi stakeholders Platform in Pujehun district.

The establishment of District Multi-stakeholder platforms (DMSPs) has brought together representatives from different interest groups including CSOs, Media, government representatives, religious groups and other interest groups discussing opportunities, shared challenges and developing policy action aiming at advocating and address issues around policy reforms on natural resources governance, social injustice, rights abuses, lack of accountable land governance and land conflict mediation in Port Loko, Bombali and Pujehun districts.

The mandates of the DMSP are:

  • Serve as an intermediary between land owners and Multinational companies on land conflict-related issues both at community and district levels.
  • Serves as a conflict Redress Mechanism platform that receives complaints, feedbacks and addresses land conflict-related cases
  • Engage Multinational companies to uphold and demonstrates transparency and accountability on land rights issues at district levels.
  • Work with stakeholders including traditional authorities popularising the National Land Policy, and VGGT at community and districts and levels.
  • Work with other stakeholders at the district advocating for the repeal of cap 122 and push for the enactment of the National Policy into law.
  • Hold regular meetings and discuss issues around land rights protection.
  • Serves as a point of contacts between land owners and Agaric Company on land related conflicts.
  • Work with Green Scenery and give updates on land related issues and developed policy actions.
